12 LPA In-Hand Salary Breakdown
See how Rs 12 LPA CTC can turn into estimated monthly in-hand salary.
Watch visual guideIf your offer says 12 LPA CTC, the monthly amount credited to your bank account will usually be lower than 1 lakh per month. That is because CTC includes employer-side benefits and annual components, not only monthly cash salary.

What 12 LPA CTC usually includes
CTC means Cost to Company. It can include monthly salary, employer PF, gratuity, variable pay, insurance, and other benefits. Your in-hand salary is calculated after removing non-monthly components and payroll deductions.
A common structure for 12 LPA might look like this:
- Basic salary: 40% to 50% of CTC
- HRA: often around 40% of basic salary
- Employer PF: capped or 12% of basic, depending on company policy
- Gratuity: often included in CTC, but not paid monthly
- Special allowance: balancing amount after the above components
- Variable pay: included in CTC if your offer has a bonus component

Monthly In-Hand

Annual In-Hand

| Deduction | Annual | Monthly |
|---|---|---|
| Employee PF | ₹29,360 | ₹2,447 |
| Professional Tax | ₹2,500 | ₹208 |
| Income Tax | ₹0 | ₹0 |
Important assumptions
For current-period PF, read the September 2026 ceiling update. The calculator now sums the applicable monthly ceilings for the selected tax year, including the split September transition. Existing capped members with sufficient PF wages have estimated employee PF of Rs 29,360 for FY 2026-27, rather than Rs 21,600 under the earlier full-year ceiling. Confirm membership, statutory wages and actual deductions with payroll.
The calculator estimate depends heavily on your inputs. For a simple 12 LPA estimate, we usually assume:
- Salaried individual below 60 years
- New tax regime unless you select old regime
- Standard deduction applied
- Employee PF deducted as per selected PF policy
- Professional tax based on selected state
- No additional deductions unless entered
- No state income tax in India
Why tax may be lower than expected
Under the new tax regime, salaried employees get a standard deduction. Section 87A rebate can also reduce tax to zero for eligible taxable income levels. This is why two 12 LPA offers may show very different monthly in-hand numbers depending on employer PF, gratuity, bonus, and tax regime.
New regime vs old regime at 12 LPA
The new regime is simpler and often works well when you do not claim many deductions. The old regime can still be better if you have rent, HRA exemption, Section 80C investments, NPS, health insurance, or home loan interest.
Do not decide only from CTC. Compare both regimes using your actual rent, city type, PF policy, and deductions.
What to check in your offer letter
- Is employer PF included in CTC?
- Is gratuity included in CTC?
- Is variable pay guaranteed or performance-based?
- Is PF capped at Rs 1,800 per month or calculated on full basic?
- Which state professional tax applies?
- What is the monthly fixed pay excluding bonus?

Reviewed 27 October 2026. Select the applicable tax year rather than treating calendar year 2026 as a tax period. The current resident rebate is section 156 of the Income-tax Act, 2025; Section 87A describes the earlier-law terminology. A Rs 12 lakh CTC is not Rs 12 lakh taxable income. Read the standard deduction and rebate guide for the Rs 12 lakh taxable-income threshold and marginal relief.
For a mid-year join or exit, use the separate employment-period estimate in the India calculator. Do not treat annual net divided by 12 as the exact bank credit in a bonus month.
If your employer asks for monthly payslips later, use the India Salary Slip Generator after you know the monthly earnings and deductions.
Bottom line
At 12 LPA, your monthly in-hand salary can vary meaningfully based on salary structure. A clean offer with lower employer-side deductions and no large variable pay will usually give better monthly cash flow than a CTC-heavy structure.
