Cost of Delaying SIP
See how delaying a monthly SIP by a few years can change long-term corpus estimates.
Watch visual guideA recurring deposit calculator helps estimate how monthly deposits may grow over a selected tenure. It is useful when you want a disciplined savings plan with a fixed monthly installment and a predictable interest rate.
Use the RD Calculator to enter the monthly deposit, annual interest rate, tenure, compounding frequency, and senior citizen extra rate if applicable. The calculator shows invested amount, interest earned, and estimated maturity amount.
RD formula used
The calculator converts the selected compounding frequency into an effective annual rate, then into an effective monthly rate.
Monthly rate = (1 + effective annual rate) ^ (1 / 12) - 1
Estimated maturity amount = Monthly deposit x [((1 + monthly rate) ^ total months - 1) / monthly rate] x (1 + monthly rate)
Interest earned = Maturity amount - Total invested amount
This assumes the monthly installment is made at the beginning of each month.
Example
If you deposit Rs 10,000 every month for 5 years at 7%:
- Total installments = 60
- Total invested amount = Rs 6,00,000
- Interest depends on the compounding assumption and bank rules
- Maturity amount = invested amount + estimated interest
Use the calculator to test different tenures, rates, and senior citizen extra-rate assumptions.
RD vs FD
An RD is useful when you want to save monthly. An FD is useful when you already have a lump sum amount.
Use the FD Calculator to compare a one-time deposit with monthly RD installments.
RD vs SIP
An RD usually has a fixed interest rate, while SIP returns are market-linked and can vary. Use the SIP Calculator to compare a recurring deposit estimate with a market-linked monthly investment estimate.
Assumptions
- Monthly deposits are assumed at the beginning of each month.
- The selected compounding frequency is converted into an effective monthly rate.
- Senior citizen extra rate is added to the base annual rate when selected.
- TDS, income tax, missed installments, bank-specific day-count rules, premature withdrawal penalties, and special bank schemes are not included.
