Cost of Delaying SIP
See how delaying a monthly SIP by a few years can change long-term corpus estimates.
Watch visual guideAn NSC calculator helps estimate the maturity value of a National Savings Certificate investment. NSC is commonly used by investors who want a government-backed savings option with fixed tenure, annual compounding, and Section 80C planning relevance.
Use the NSC Calculator to enter investment amount, interest rate, and tenure. The calculator shows maturity amount, interest earned, and a year-wise interest accrual table.
NSC formula used
NSC interest is estimated with annual compounding.
Maturity amount = Investment amount x (1 + annual rate) ^ tenure years
Interest earned = Maturity amount - Investment amount
For example, if Rs 1,00,000 is invested at 7.7% for 5 years:
- Interest compounds annually
- Maturity amount is estimated using the annual compounding formula
- Interest earned is the difference between maturity amount and original investment
NSC tenure
NSC VIII Issue commonly uses a 5-year maturity. The calculator keeps tenure editable for what-if estimates, but 5 years is the practical default for current NSC-style planning.
NSC and Section 80C
The initial NSC investment may be eligible under Section 80C subject to the overall limit and applicable rules. Tax treatment of accrued interest can be more nuanced, so this calculator does not calculate tax.
Use the PPF Calculator to compare NSC with another 80C-friendly savings option.
Use the FD Calculator to compare NSC with a bank fixed deposit estimate.
Assumptions
- Interest is compounded annually.
- Interest is shown as payable at maturity for this estimate.
- Tenure defaults to 5 years.
- The interest rate is editable because small savings rates are reviewed periodically.
- Tax on accrued interest, Section 80C limits across other investments, premature encashment, and account-specific rules are not included.
