EMI Calculator India 2026 with Amortization Table
2026-07-07 - 3 min read
An EMI calculator helps estimate the fixed monthly payment for a loan. It is useful for home loans, personal loans, car loans, education loans, and any loan where repayment happens through equal monthly installments.
Use the EMI Calculator to enter loan amount, annual interest rate, tenure, and start month. The calculator shows monthly EMI, total interest, total payment, yearly summary, and an amortization table.
EMI formula
EMI = Principal x monthly rate x (1 + monthly rate) ^ months / ((1 + monthly rate) ^ months - 1)
Where:
- Principal = loan amount
- Monthly rate = annual interest rate / 12 / 100
- Months = total loan tenure in months
If the loan has 0% interest, the EMI is simply:
EMI = Principal / months
What an amortization table shows
An amortization table breaks every EMI into:
- Interest paid for that month
- Principal repaid for that month
- Remaining loan balance after payment
In early months, a larger part of the EMI usually goes toward interest. As the outstanding loan balance reduces, the interest portion falls and the principal portion rises.
Example
For a Rs 50,00,000 loan at 8.5% for 20 years:
- Monthly rate = 8.5% / 12
- Tenure = 240 months
- EMI is calculated using the EMI formula
- Total interest depends on rate, tenure, and repayment timing
Use the EMI Calculator to change the rate and tenure and see how the yearly summary changes.
EMI vs EMI affordability
The EMI calculator answers:
- What is the monthly EMI for this loan amount?
- How much interest will I pay?
- How does principal and interest change over time?
The EMI Affordability Calculator answers a different question:
- How much EMI can I afford based on my salary?
- What loan amount could that support?
Use both together before planning a large loan.
Assumptions
- The interest rate is fixed for the calculation.
- EMI is paid monthly.
- Interest is calculated on the remaining balance.
- The final EMI may adjust slightly because of rounding.
- Processing fees, insurance, prepayments, floating-rate changes, penalties, and taxes are not included.
